In the last year, the digital marketing world has moved along a click. Investment in digital marketing is up both in absolute terms and as a percentage of the total advertising pie. Spam and privacy concerns, while still blinking brightly on the radar screen, have dropped down from being major threats to the viability of digital marketing, to issues being addressed by a combination of technology, legislation, industry best practice and consumer education. E-mail marketing remains an effective channel, with open and click through rates higher in Asia Pacific than elsewhere in the world. Search is red hot, as was demonstrated at the recent sold-out Search Engine Marketing event held in Hong Kong with Google, MSN, Overture and consultant Profero. Although the picture is bright, there is still lots of work to be done to educate traditional marketers and agencies on digital?s place in the mix, and on the more sophisticated tools and techniques available. According to the results of the second annual Asia Digital Marketing Survey, maintaining a website and e-communications are still the two most common forms of digital marketing, although use of online advertising and online research is increasing. We look forward to the second half of 2005, which promises some large-scale workshop events and real momentum on delivering research that provides specific performance data on digital marketing in our region. Please let me know any thoughts, concerns or brilliant brainstorms! David Ketchum Chairman ![]() ADMA WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS New Corporate Members are: Omniture and Google.
