Just back from the terrific iMedia Agency Summit in Phuket. Torrential rain kept the participants in the conference rooms and focused on the sessions. No tans but tons of insights and networking.

There was lots of discussion about the future role of agencies, and the way forward for digital media. I thought you'd be interested in my notes from Randall Rothenberg of the IAB's presentation. He identified five "transformative areas" for digital marketing:
  • marketing as conversation

  • moving beyond insight to foresight
  • media: the new creative

  • marketing + math: metrics matter

  • the network effect


  • His point that we can no longer separate channel, technology and creativity when formulating digital campaigns was right on the mark. He talked about how the marketing media model had changed, and today for marketers now, media can be either bought, owned or earned. This new media landscape opens up opportunities to embrace 360 degree audiences and calls for boundary-less creativity and true behavioural targeting.
